Chrysler PT Cruiser Tailgate Events Kick College Football Into High Gear

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 9 The segment-defining Chrysler
PT Cruiser kicks the college football season into high gear this weekend at
the University of Michigan with the first of 10 tailgate events taking place
across the country.  Designed to promote team spirit among game attendees with
music, popcorn and other giveaways, the PT Cruiser Tailgate events also serve
as an opportunity to build a relationship with potential customers and raise
awareness of the all-new Chrysler, to go on sale early next year.
    "The PT Cruiser's unique design and tailgate table feature makes this the
perfect vehicle for innovative marketing activities," said Martin R. Levine,
Vice President, Chrysler/Plymouth/Jeep(R) Division - DaimlerChrysler
Corporation .  "The PT Cruiser's presence in the marketplace gives
us the ability to start building relationships with potential buyers before it
goes on sale."
    Thousands of university alumni, ticket holders and potential PT Cruiser
customers will receive invitations to attend the pre-game activities.  This is
not an invitation-only event, however; anyone can participate in the
activities and enter to win one of three prizes, including a Chrysler PT
Cruiser or one of two cruises.
    The winners will be announced at the Fiesta Bowl on January 3.
    In addition to the festive tailgate activities, other highlights at the
event include a Sports Illustrated "The 50 Greatest Moments in Sports" display
and Chrysler Showcase -- a computer kiosk with Chrysler product information.
Chrysler product ambassadors will be on hand to answer questions about the
vehicles.
    The all-new 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser melds a uniquely American design with
an innovative interior package to create a vehicle that does not fit into any
existing vehicle category.
    "We expect buyer interest in the PT Cruiser to be very strong, given
consumer reaction at auto shows around the country," said Levine.  "We are not
ready to take deposits, but we already have customers asking our dealers about
how they can be the first to get one."
