Mitsubishi Galant Ranked Number One in Car and Driver Comparison

Mitsubishi Galant Ranked Number One in Car and Driver Comparison; Mid-Size Sedan Selected Over Seven Other $20,000 Competitors
CYPRESS, Calif., Aug. 12 -- In its September 1999 issue, Car
and Driver magazine asked "What does America want in a $20,000 sedan?" After
putting eight mid-size sedans through a thorough comparison test, the
magazine's editors had a clear answer: the Mitsubishi Galant ES V6.
Citing its aggressive exterior styling, a 195-horsepower, 3.0-liter SOHC
24-valve V6 that was the most powerful in the group, and balanced ride-and-
handling characteristics, Car and Driver chose the Galant over some well-
established entries in the mid-size sedan category, including the top-selling
Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.
"Galant was designed to offer a true alternative to look-alike, drive-
alike mid-size sedans," said Pierre Gagnon, executive vice president and chief
operating officer for Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. (MMSA.) "With
this number-one ranking by Car and Driver magazine, we have confirmation that
we certainly met our goal of providing a unique combination of style,
performance and value."
The Galant, all-new for 1999, is a stylish departure from other mid-size
sedans. With two powerful engine choices -- a 145-horsepower 2.4-liter
4-cylinder or a 195-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 -- and a suspension tuned for
precise handling, it has the performance to back up its sleek appearance.
Standard equipment for the 1999 Galant ES V6 which Car and Driver tested
includes anti-lock brakes with four-wheel discs; 16-inch wheels and tires; fog
lamps; air conditioning; leather-wrapped steering wheel; remote keyless entry
system; cruise control; power windows and door locks; and, an air filtration
system. Even with all these features, the base MSRP is just $20,425,
including destination/handling charges.*
Other Galant models range from $17,425 for the 4-cylinder DE to $24,785
for the sporty, V6-equipped GTZ (including 48-state destination/handling
charges).
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. was established in 1982 by
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Tokyo, and markets a full line of vehicles,
including coupes, convertibles, sedans and sport utility vehicles.

    *  MSRP for the 1999 Galant ES V6 is $19,990 plus $455
destination/handling charges; destination/handling charges for Alaska/Hawaii
are higher.
