Two Volvo's Win Top Awards From The Auto Channel

Volvo S80 Named 'Car-of-the-Year' and Volvo V70 AWD Named 'Wagon of the Year' by The Auto ChannelROCKLEIGH, N.J., Aug. 12 -- The Volvo S80 has been named Car-of-the-Year and the V70 AWD has been named "Wagon of the Year" in The Auto Channel's Golden Tachometer Awards. Staff at The Auto Channel (http://www.theautochannel.com) used judgment criteria including price, design, comfort, handling, performance, technological advancement, brand positioning, and overall value. "Demonstrating an impressive ability to provide style, safety, and luxury at a fair price, the S80 epitomizes value for the consumer," according to the judges, who also remarked the V70 AWD models offer "a complex combination of advanced technology, attractive style, efficient load-carrying design, and enough get-up-and-go to deliver an exciting drive." Since its introduction in October 1998, the S80 has received a variety of awards including National Highway Transportation Safety Association's Highest SINCAP rating, AutoPacific's 1999 Vehicle Satisfaction Award, Strategic Vision's Total Quality Award, the European Design Award, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada's Best New Prestige Car Award, the Automobile Club of Southern California's "Ideal Consumer Vehicle," Inside Automotives International's Automotive Interior of the Year, and Australia's National Roads and Motorist Association's Luxury Car of the Year. V70 models have been honored as the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada's Best New Wagon 1997, Carguide's Best Buy in "Wagon" Class, AAA's 1998 Best in Price Class, and Carguide's 1997 People's Choice Award.
