U.S. Motorcycle Manufacturer to Make History At SturgisMINNEAPOLIS--August 10, 1999--Victory Motorcyclesis going to take the traditional Sturgis biker rally, bite-off a chunk of metal, chew-up its worn old leather pants, and spit-out a whole new chapter in motorcycle history.
From the rough and tough streets of Sturgis, South Dakota, the entire world will witness Victory's unveiling of a whole new category of motorcycles -- the SportCruiser(TM) -- at the 59th annual Sturgis Rally & Races.
The new category of motorcycles bridges the gap between two of the major existing categories -- the cruiser and the sport bike. "Our new SportCruiser is for the motorcyclist who doesn't want to be limited by their bike," said Matt Parks, General Manager of Victory Motorcycles. "We've created the bike that enthusiasts want, and it's the only one of its kind on the market."
A private event to introduce the new bike will be held at 8 p.m. Mountain/MDT on Tues., Aug. 10th at the Philtown Inn in downtown Sturgis. The hotel's pool area will be transformed into a biker bar, complete with diamond-plate serving pieces and celebrity and industry guests. The first-ever live Webcast introduction of a new motorcycle can be viewed at www.victory-usa.com/sturgis.
A public unveiling of the new SportCruiser and the 2000 model V92C will take place in Sturgis at 10 a.m. Mountain/MDT on Wed., Aug. 11th at the Victory truck and trailer at I-90 and exit 30.
Breaking old traditions is fast becoming a theme for Victory Motorcycles. The first model, the Victory V92C, brought a new style and flair to the heavy weight cruiser market just 13 months ago. In its first year on the road, the V92C was named Cruiser of the Year by Cycle World Magazine. After a strong first year and more than 3,000 bikes produced, the new SportCruiser(TM) promises to open up an entirely new category of motorcycles for enthusiasts.
"Victory Motorcycles will make history at Sturgis this year when we introduce our whole new category of motorcycles to the world over the Internet," said Tom Tiller, Chief Executive Officer of Polaris.
Victory Motorcycles will record another first at Sturgis this year when the Victory-sponsored No. 75 NASCAR Winston Cup stock car, driven by Kyle Petty, parades through the crowded streets of Sturgis followed by a police escort on their way to the public unveiling Aug. 11th, and the car will remain on display for the event.
As the week winds down, Victory riders will tour the scenic Black Hills in a lunch ride planned for Aug. 13th. The ride leaves at 11:30 a.m. from the Victory truck and trailer off of I-90 and exit 30. Riders will fuel-up on lunch and then enjoy beautiful canyon riding.
