VDO Introduces the Carin 522 Car Navigation System
     WINCHESTER, Va., June 29 /PRNewswire / - - - VDO North America's Audio
Navigation Division announces the introduction of the Carin 522 Interactive
Car Navigation System. The Carin 522 is VDO's latest vehicle navigation
system.
Carin provides turn-by-turn verbal and visual navigation, and also finds
locations such as gas stations, restaurants, ATM's, and hotels anywhere along
the way. Whether travelling across the country or across town, Carin reduces
the stress of driving in unfamiliar places, getting stuck in traffic jams, and
finding services while on the road. Drivers never have to stop in an unsafe
area to ask for directions.
Carin automatically plots routes and can automatically navigate around
detours and traffic jams to help keep drivers relaxed and on time. Carin's
clear, concise turn-by-turn let drivers concentrate on the road ahead, making
Carin safe and easy to use. The monitor displays either a full color scalable
map or directional pictograms showing upcoming intersections and where to
turn.
While GPS-only based map systems can be off by as much as 400', Carin
uses GPS, vehicle speed sensing, and an on-board gyroscope, delivering the
highest level of navigation accuracy of any in-car system. These inputs allow
continuous navigation, even in areas such as urban canyons and between
satellites.
"Carin's elegant interface and infrared remote control make navigation as
easy to use as a bank's ATM," notes Gary Grove, North American Sales
Manager. "We've taken our expertise in designing navigation systems for BMW,
Land Rover, and Lincoln, and put it into the Carin 522. Now, every driver can
have the safety and peace-of-mind that Carin provides."

    A wide range of benefits
In-car navigation provides a host of advantages for consumers, business
drivers, and commercial fleets. Drivers who have experienced the system say
that arriving at their destination relaxed and on time is perhaps the nicest
benefit of all. Unlike some systems, Carin requires no subscription service.
The system and CD-ROMs are all that are needed to navigate anywhere in the US.
