Mechanical Breakdown Insurance Now Available Through Farmers Agents in Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore.--June 21, 1999--Customers looking to protect their pocketbooks from the high cost of auto repair can now purchase mechanical breakdown insurance through Farmers agents in Oregon.
Mechanical breakdown insurance pays for parts and labor to repair or replace major component parts on a customer's covered auto, van or pick-up. It also covers wear-and-tear failures of covered parts.
"Our policy is the most comprehensive coverage in the industry," said Deb Settle, executive director for Farmers in Oregon. "The coverage can be added at any time, and several terms and coverage options are available." In addition, the mechanical breakdown policy can be assigned to the next owner of the vehicle to help the seller negotiate a higher resale price.
Farmers has historically limited its auto coverage to traditional automobile policies -- the kind that provide for liability, collision, comprehensive (other than collision damages), towing and rental reimbursement.
"This is a new market for Farmers," said Settle. "The decision was made to expand into the mechanical breakdown insurance business after receiving numerous inquiries for the coverage. We're excited about the challenge of entering in this new line of coverage and the opportunity to serve our customers with a new product."
Farmers is the second largest property and casualty insurer in Oregon. With headquarters in Los Angeles and doing business in 34 states, Farmers provides home, auto, business and life insurance to more than 8 million households through 15,000 agents and district managers.
