Saab Announces Voluntary Recall

1 June 1999

Saab Announces Voluntary Recall
NORCROSS, Ga., June 1 -- Saab Cars USA, Inc., importer of
Saab automobiles, announces a voluntary recall of approximately 26,000 model
year 1992 through 1994 Saab 9000 cars for installation of a protective cover
on the inflatable restraint electronic control module (ECM).
The automaker determined that it is possible for moisture to enter the
control module and corrode some of the internal printed circuit boards. This
could potentially cause the diagnostic system to illuminate the "SRS" light.
No accidents or injuries have been reported. The inflatable restraint ECM
will be fitted with a protective cover and, if necessary, will be replaced.
U.S. owners of affected Saab 9000 modules will be notified by mail
beginning in July 1999, and will be asked to schedule a free installation at
an authorized Saab dealership at their convenience.
