The formation of The Racing Angels Charitable Organization
27 May 1999
On May 1, 1999, a group of dedicated NASCAR fans met at Lake Martin, Alabama to form The Racing Angels Charitable Organization. With guidance and inspiration from our gracious host and mentor, George Freeman, Executive Director, Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Foundation, Racing Angels discussed ways that we could unite race fans, worthwhile charitable organizations and corporate sponsors with the common goal of promoting awareness and raising funds for worthwhile causes. The vision of Racing Angels is to be the premier host of high quality fundraising events with the sanction and support of official motorsports organizations. What does all of this mean? Racing Angels will hold a single charity fundraising event at each of the major racing venues during the race season. At each one of these charity events, Racing Angels would donate the proceeds to local area charities. By having one major event, instead of several smaller events, more money can be raised to benefit these local charities. Some examples of the types of events we would like to host would be musical concerts featuring major performing artists, golf tournaments where NASCAR drivers are participating, auctions of race-related merchandise and barbecues. Racing Angels is a self-funded organization, overseen by a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors consists of the following people: PRESIDENT - Sue Phillips VICE PRESIDENT - Barb Skobel TREASURER - Stephanie Steffen SECRETARY - Angie Kaiser BOARD MEMBERRS - Steve Hirsch, Dave Bosen, Christi Martin, Dawn Earl, Lisa Beaman The Racing Angels Charitable Organization plans to hold a few major fundraising events during the 2000 race season.
