It was reported by the Associated Press that "The war in open-wheel racing might be nearing its end after four years." Bill France Jr NASCAR President seems to be offering his good offices to help bring the two parties together. The 1995 CART and the IRL split has created a great divide among "Indy Car" fans with the majority of that fan community siding with CART by showing their support at the turnstyles. Associated press in its story dated May 26, 1999 quotes Andrew Craig President and CEO of CART "I can confirm that there have been some very prelimanary discussions."
