From Fido to Felines, AAA Has Pet Travel Answers

ORLANDO, Fla.--May 12, 1999--How many hours in advance should you feed your pet before airline travel? What should you do immediately upon checking into a hotel room with your pet?
If your pet travels with the family, you need answers to these and other important questions about pet etiquette - called "petiquette" -- that can be found in a new publication from AAA, "Traveling With Your Pet -- The AAA PetBook(R)."
"We know that traveling with your pet is great fun, but we also know it requires careful planning and attention to detail," said Alan Borne, managing director, AAA Publishing. "We want the vacation to be enjoyable, even for the non-human family members."
"Traveling With Your Pet" includes more than 10,000 listings of accommodations in North America that accept pets as well as tips on traveling by car or air, preparing for the trip, selecting a travel kennel and taking an outdoor or active vacation.
New to the 1999 edition are listings of animal clinics in North America, listings of U.S. and Canadian national parks and other public lands that allow pets, information for travelers with disabilities who travel with companion animals and border crossing information for transporting pets between the United States and Canada.
"In addition to leisure travel, this book is also an important resource for people who are moving to a new city or state with their pets," said Borne. "This guide takes the guesswork out of planning a trip with an animal."
The pet-friendly properties listing notes amenities that are available for pets such as treats, a pet menu or pet sitting; pet-specific policies regarding fees, deposits, pet size, and housekeeping services; discount information; and amenities for people such as pools and in-room coffee makers.
"Traveling With Your Pet -- The AAA PetBook(R)," is available at a discount to AAA/CAA members who purchase it at their local AAA/CAA office. It is also available at a suggested retail price of $12 U.S./$18 Canadian. It is distributed to bookstores through Simon and Schuster.
AAA is a not-for-profit federation of 90 clubs with 1,100 offices providing nearly 42 million members with travel, insurance, financial and auto-related services.
