TV Program 'Autoline Detroit' Reviews Auto Industry's First Quarter
    DETROIT, April 2 -- On the television program "Autoline
Detroit" some of the auto industry's top journalists review the most important
developments that took place in the first quarter.  The program airs on
Detroit Public Television at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 4, 1999, and is
repeated at 7 a.m., Monday April 5.
    "Autoline Detroit" is hosted by veteran auto journalist John McElroy.  His
panel of journalists for Sunday's show include Edward Lapham of Automotive
News, John Lippert of Bloomberg, Joe Szczesney of the Oakland Press, and Matt
DeLorenzo of Road & Track magazine.  They discuss the UAW's opposition to GM's
Yellowstone project, the emerging strains in the DaimlerChrysler merger, and
potential problems with Renault and Nissan.
    On Monday, April 5 at 5:30 p.m., the "Nightly Automotive Report," a
companion television program, will report on how Volkswagen is building its
brand image to turn the company around.  Dr. Paul D. Ballew, the president of
the Seger Automotive Group, gives his analysis of how the industry will
perform this year, plus a report on new brake technology being developed for
cars.  Then, on Tuesday through Friday, the "Nightly Automotive Report" will
cover all the highlights from the New York auto show.
