13 March 1999

Saab Announces 1999 Saab 9-5 Wagon Pricing; Sleek and Versatile Wagon Equipped for Active Lifestyles Starts at Just $31,850
NORCROSS, Ga., March 12 -- Saab has announced an aggressive
pricing structure for the company's sleek new 1999 Saab 9-5 Wagon. For a base
price of just $31,850, customers get the strong performance of a 2.3L
4-cylinder light-pressure turbocharged engine with 170 hp at 5,500 rpm and
207 lb.-ft. of torque as low as 1,800 rpm all the way up to 3,400 rpm. This
potent powerplant is matched to a smooth shifting five-speed manual
transmission. Consistent with Saab's emphasis on safety, standard equipment
includes next-generation front airbags, seat-mounted head and chest protecting
side airbags, and the world-first Saab Active Head Restraint (SAHR) system.
Saab's 9-5 Wagon boasts a cavernous cargo capacity of 72.9 cubic feet with the
rear seat fully folded down and is outfitted with Saab's exclusive
CargoTracks(TM) load securing system, integrated roof rails and a rigid, but
foldable, sound insulating cargo shelf. Saab's 9-5 Wagon is prepared for
families or individuals with the most active of lifestyles.
The base price of $31,850 also includes such customer convenience features
as a standard power sunroof, a powerful (200 watt) Harman/Kardon 8-speaker
audio system with in-dash CD and cassette players, 8-way power seats, a cooled
(to 45 degrees) glove box, dual-zone automatic climate control system, four
cupholders, double divided sunvisors, and much more.
Because of its lengthy standard equipment list, options for the base Saab
9-5 Wagon are limited to a four-speed automatic transmission ($1,150), an
integrated rear child seat ($300), and a front and rear heated seat package
($520). Customers can also choose a leather interior package ($1,350), or opt
for the industry's first ventilated front seats, packaged with the leather
seats and including driver-side seat position memory for an additional $1,800.
Saab also offers the auto industry's only asymmetrically turbocharged V6
engine with a standard four-speed automatic transmission for just $36,900.
The 3.0L V6 equipped Saab 9-5 Wagon develops 200 hp at 5,000 rpm and
tremendously useable maximum torque of 229 lb.-ft. as low as 2,500 rpm all the
way up to 4,000 rpm. The top-of-the-line Saab 9-5 Wagon has all of the
standard features of the 2.3L wagon plus the standard automatic transmission,
electronic full-range traction control, and a standard leather interior.
Ventilated seats are a $1,025 option, the heated front and rear seat package
is available for $520, and an integrated rear child booster seat is available
for $300.
Rounding-out Saab's model range of 9-3 Coupes, 5-Doors and Convertibles,
and 9-5 Sedans, the Saab 9-5 Wagon goes on sale at Saab dealerships throughout
the U.S. on April 12, 1999.
