Automobile Theft Prevention Authority Presents Senator Fumo's Philadelphia LoJack Program With a $50,000 Grant.MECHANICSBURG, Pa. March 10 -- In a press conference to be held Thursday, March 11, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mayor's Reception Room in City Hall, the Pennsylvania Automobile Theft Prevention Authority (ATPA) will present Senator Vincent Fumo's popular Philadelphia LoJack program with a $50,000 grant -- doubling the initial funding Senator Fumo provided. Working through the Citizen's Crime Commission of Delaware Valley, the ATPA's grant will enable at least 250 Philadelphians in designated high vehicle theft areas to purchase the LoJack vehicle theft recovery system for a significantly reduced cost of $200.00. Senator Fumo started the program to make the system more affordable for Philadelphians residing or working in high vehicle theft districts. The program was extremely well received. "The Automobile Theft Prevention Authority strongly supports programs which work to prevent vehicle theft in Pennsylvania," said ATPA Executive Director Roy Miller. "Senator Fumo introduced a program which, through its popularity, will enable many Philadelphians who would not otherwise be able to afford the LoJack system a chance to purchase it at a greatly reduced price." "Vehicle theft is a serious problem in Philadelphia and throughout the Commonwealth. The Philadelphia Police Department has been very successful in combating this crime; however, it will take the total efforts of legislators, community leaders, community groups, business and professional organizations and every vehicle owner, to effectively eradicate this quality-of-life crime" added Miller.
