Top Driver and BADD Team Together To Fight Drunk DrivingNEW YORK, Feb. 1 -- With national drunk driving incidents reaching epidemic proportions, Top Driver and Businesses Against Drunk Drivers, Inc. (BADD), two nationally renowned driver education organizations, are forming an alliance to combat the problem. The partnership gives Top Driver the green light to incorporate BADD's drunk driving prevention education into its already comprehensive curriculum. Also, Top Driver will offer its fleet safety training courses to businesses associated with BADD. BADD is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to utilize the strength, talent and resources of business and industry to combat drunk driving. BADD's diverse membership includes Harley-Davidson, AAA, Miller Brewing, United Healthcare, Wisconsin Electric, Bank One, Kimberly-Clark, Briggs & Stratton, Sentry Insurance, American Family Insurance, Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Green Bay Packers. "No comprehensive training program is complete without addressing the national drunk driving issue," said Sebastian Giordano, Top Driver chief operating officer, referring to 1997 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics that report a person is injured in an alcohol-related crash every two minutes, or more than 327,000 annually. "Our new alliance speaks directly to our mission by presenting business owners the necessary options to help reduce work related accidents and drunk driving incidents through prevention education," said Derse Smith Todd, executive director of BADD. BADD, which was founded in 1988, provides its dues-paying members with newsletters, educational literature, speakers, awareness campaigns, workshops, and audio/visual presentations as well as special programs that feature the popular drunk driving simulator tool -- Fatal Vision Goggles(TM) -- that allow wearers to experience firsthand the potentially fatal consequences of alcohol and drug impairment. BADD's Confidential Cab Fare program has gained national recognition and acclaim. Currently, more than 40 member and non-member companies participate in the program which offers employers an opportunity to promote drunk driving prevention and awareness to employees as well as enhance positive internal corporate relations.
