ZAP and Electric Bike Customers Ready for Year 2000

SEBASTOPOL, Calif.--Jan. 8, 1999--While you are updating your computer system to avoid the dreaded "Y2K bug," you might want to update your transportation.
Electric bike and scooter maker ZAP Power Systems (OTC BB:ZAPP) says its electric bikes and scooters are becoming a hot item for people getting ready for the year 2000. The company has completed updating its own computer system so it will not recognize the year 2000 as 1900.
But, with experts predicting the breakdown of the world's computer systems from the glitch and a resulting collapse in basic services, ZAP customers say they also want to be prepared. ZAP says that customers concerned about Y2K are purchasing electric bikes and solar arrays to charge them so they can be ready in the event of a gas or power shortage.
Applying a little muscle power to the ZAP can also generate electricity. ZAP sells a power stand so its customers can set up their electric bikes in the den like an exercise bike. A special regenerative feature allows the rider to generate electricity while pedaling at a brisk pace, offering a good workout and enough electricity to charge a 12-volt battery.
Customers can even purchase a Personal Mobile PowerCart that has been developed to serve as a silent backup power system. This unit can provide 1100 watts of AC power, enough power for the kitchen, office or clinic.
A complete ZAPPY(tm) electric scooter is now available for $599 with optional "Y2K failsafe" solar charger for $149. ZAP's electric bikes start at $579.
The Personal PowerCart is available for $3500. ZAP is a publicly owned company; the stock symbol is ZAPP. For further information contact ZAP at 800/251-4555 or access its web site at http://www.zapbikes.com.
