Subaru Mid-America Region Reports Year-End Sales; Record-Breaking Sales Year
    ITASCA, Ill., Jan. 6 -- The Subaru Mid-America Region
announced its year-end sales figures.  The Mid-America Region posted a year-
end sales total of 16,578 units for 1998, up 19 percent over the same period
last year.  December 1998 sales of 1,423 units marked the best ever December
sales month for this region.
    Nationally, Subaru of America, Inc. recorded a year-end sales total of
147,833 units for 1998 up 10.5 percent over year-end 1997 totals.  1998 marks
the sixth year of year-over-year retail sales increases.  December held all-
time sales records for both the Outback and Forester.
    Subaru of America, Inc./Mid-America Region, located in Itasca, Ill.,
operates as a regional sales and parts distribution center of Subaru of
America, Inc.  The regional office services 98 retail dealerships throughout
Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio and
Wisconsin.
