1999 Volkswagen New Beetle Raffle Will Benefit The Detroit Institute for Children

    DETROIT, Nov. 20 -- For the second consecutive year,
Volkswagen has donated a New Beetle to be raffled for a very special cause.
Proceeds from the drawing, held in conjunction with the North American
International Auto Show (NAIAS), will benefit The Detroit Institute for
Children (DIC) which provides care for children and young adults with
disabilities.
    Tickets for the raffle go on sale November 20, 1998 and the drawing will
be held on the last day of the Auto Show, Monday, January 18, 1999.  Tickets
are $100 each and are available by calling 888-790-KIDS, ext. 203.  Chance of
winning is 1 in 1,000.  Checks and all major credit cards are accepted.  You
need not be present to win.
    The New Beetle made its debut at last year's Auto Show to the delight of
car buffs and nostalgic Beetle fans alike.  And true to Volkswagen, the new
edition will continue to excite the automotive world with new-for-1999
features including ABS four-wheel disc brakes, rear-seat reading lights,
special "ring" type head rests and door entry lights.
    In addition to the New Beetle raffle, proceeds from the sales of
Volkswagen merchandise sold during the show will go toward DIC's programs and
services.  DIC is also one of the eleven local children's charities to benefit
from the NAIAS's Charity Preview, sponsored by the Detroit Auto Dealers
Association.
    Since 1920, The Detroit Institute for Children has been providing
specialized diagnostic, medical and rehabilitative care to children with
physical, neurological and developmental disabilities from southeastern
Michigan, northern Ohio and Ontario.  Nearly 3,000 children and young adults
receive services from the United Way supported agency each year.
