Metrowerks Announces Partnership with Kyoto Microcomputer Co. Ltd.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--Nov. 3, 1998--Metrowerks Inc. (TSE:MWK) (ME:MWK) today announced that it has entered into a partnership agreement with Kyoto Microcomputer Co. Ltd. ("KMC"), one of Japan's leading embedded tools providers, to resell KMC's products outside of Japan on an exclusive basis.
Metrowerks will acquire exclusive rights to resell KMC's high-performance Partner-ET II ROM emulators and KMC's new miniPartner on-chip debugging hardware. KMC's Partner ROM emulator solution is known for fast data transfer and download speeds, at rates of up to 4 Mbytes per second. The miniPartner allows low-cost, high-speed debugging of JTAG-enabled targets such as V800 series, SH and MIPS processors, at download rates of up to 500 Kbytes per second. Other JTAG-enabled targets will be supported in the future.
KMC solutions support most major 8-, 16- and 32-bit processor offerings and are a permanent part of most Japanese semiconductor companies' authorized tool chains. KMC is one of the leading Japanese providers of embedded tools for the car navigation, smartphone and game markets, and is the authorized tools vendor for Nintendo 64. Until now, KMC products have not been marketed outside of Japan.
"Metrowerks' support for KMC products will give embedded developers access to state-of-the-art technologies for embedded development," said Mamoru Yura, engineering manager, NEC Microcomputer Technology Ltd.
"In Japan, KMC's partnership with NEC has created very successful tools solutions for game consoles, car navigation systems and many other embedded products based on our VR4100/4300/5000 and V830/V850 RISC microprocessors. By supporting KMC's Partner-ET II and miniPartner with CodeWarrior, Metrowerks extends support for these solutions around the world and offers developers powerful and popular tools for debugging large and complex embedded applications based on our newest RISC microprocessors."
"KMC is very happy to partner with Metrowerks for the distribution outside of Japan of our extended target debugger products," said Shoichi Yamamoto, president, Kyoto Microcomputer Co. Ltd. "With Metrowerks' technical and marketing strengths, we are able, for the first time, to provide customers, worldwide, with Partner and miniPartner tools that Japanese semiconductor companies and embedded developers have used with great success."
"Our partnership with KMC provides developers with a fully-integrated toolchain for MIPS embedded development using KMC's Partner-ET II and miniPartner technology," said Greg Galanos, president and chief technology officer, Metrowerks. "We look forward to working closely with KMC in order to provide a powerful, integrated solution that allows for faster start-up, faster development and faster time-to-market for the embedded development community."

    About Metrowerks Embedded System Products

The CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment (IDE) is the most powerful multi-host, multi-target, multi-language software development solution available in the market. CodeWarrior's state-of-the-art design gives embedded software developers a flexible, high-performance toolset to help them clear many of the productivity and time-to-market hurdles they face today. CodeWarrior accelerates the development process by combining advanced compilers with an editor, debugger, linker and code browser, all controlled by a single, intuitive graphical user interface (GUI).
CodeWarrior provides engineers with the ability to pick the host platform, programming language, and target processor that best suits the needs of the project, without having to learn a whole new set of development tools. CodeWarrior is hosted on Windows 95/98, Windows NT and Solaris, and offers a choice of several high-level programming languages (C, C++, EC++, Pascal and Java), as well as full support for in-line assembly. CodeWarrior compilers are available to target PowerPC, MIPS, 68K, x86 and other families of microprocessors.
CodeWarrior embedded solutions start at $2,500 for a single seat, and are available from Metrowerks and Metrowerks authorized resellers. All purchases include one product update and technical support for the CodeWarrior IDE for one year. Multi-user and academic licenses are available at a discounted price.
