Chrysler Pacifica Concept Takes Minivan Luxury to New Heights

Chrysler Pacifica Concept Takes Minivan Luxury to New Heights
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 29 -- Chrysler was first
to introduce luxury to the minivan market segment in 1990 with Town & Country.
Since 1995, Town & Country sales have increased 117 percent. Loaded with
premium concept features, Chrysler Pacifica would soar even higher within the
luxury minivan market segment.
"Our Pacifica concept minivan was inspired by the luxury and convenience
offered in executive jet travel," said Neil Walling, Chrysler Corporation's
Director of Design. "We wanted Pacifica to bring the benefits of executive
jet travel down to earth, into the minivan, and on to the road."
Pacifica, painted Light Pewter Pearl Coat, is instantly recognizable with
a grille that features an egg-crate design with chrome edging similar to that
of the all-new 1999 Chrysler LHS. The winged Chrysler medallion adorns the
grille while sculptured headlamp bezels house compact projector beams and turn
signals which flow seamlessly into the hood. Augmenting the headlamps are fog
lamps that are molded into the lower fascia.
The luxury travel theme is established inside of the cabin. Rear
passengers are treated to two fully-reclining, adjustable power leather seats
with power foot rests, similar to those offered in a first class luxury
aircraft. Seven passenger seating is accomplished with two jump seats and a
split-bench 50/50 seat configuration.
The luxurious interior comes complete with airline-inspired overhead
storage bins, overhead lighting, drop down video screen and woodgrain accents.
One of Pacifica's most distinguishing features are two sky lights that run
the length of the roof. "The sky lights are used to create an open,
architectural feel inside," said Walling. "We wanted passengers to feel like
they were in their family room or some other special place."
Similar to executive air travel, storage items are strategically placed
out of view. Pacifica's roof is raised in order to provide space for interior
overhead storage bins and a separate passenger-side exterior storage
compartment which is perfect for storing wet skis or golf umbrellas. A
special golf bag rack system is built into the rear of the cabin and allows
storage for up to four sets of golf clubs.
"Chrysler Pacifica is for those who like to travel first class," said
Walling.
