Hyundai Announces Pricing on All-New 1999 Sonata; Price Reduction of 4 Percent on GLS Model Makes it an Outstanding ValueFOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Oct. 26 -- Hyundai Motor America today announced suggested retail pricing on its all-new 1999 Sonata, lowering the price on the top-of-the-line GLS model by 4 percent in comparison with the 1998 model. The GLS with automatic transmission is just $17,799 -- a $750 reduction from the price of last year's Sonata GLS automatic. The base Sonata with automatic transmission is equipped like last year's mid-range GL model, yet is priced $550 lower, at just $15,799. The Sonata is an all-new car for 1999, with new engines, new transmissions and class-leading safety equipment, including standard side air bags, seat belt pretensioners and a passenger detection system that prevents air bags from deploying if there is 66 pounds or less in the passenger seat. "The new Sonata is truly an outstanding value," said Finbarr O'Neill, president and chief executive officer of Hyundai Motor America. "Plus, it's backed by the best warranty in the industry, which includes a 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain coverage and five years of free roadside assistance." Suggested prices on the 1999 Sonata models are: Sonata with 5-speed manual transmission $14,999 Sonata with 4-speed automatic transmission $15,799 Sonata GLS with 5-speed manual transmission $16,999 Sonata GLS with 4-speed automatic transmission $17,799 Destination charges remain the same at $435 in the continental United States and Hawaii, and $585 for Alaska.
