Honda Posts September Sales

American Honda Sets All Time Record For Model Year Sales, New Records for Monthly and Year-To-Date Sales TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 1 -- American Honda reported an
all-time record for model year sales today, totaling 993,540 for the 1998
model year ending last month -- 8.1 percent ahead of the model year 1997
record total of 919,413. Contributing to the increase are record Honda
division sales of 891,541, up 10.9 percent over the 1997 record, and total
Acura division model year sales of 101,999.
Record American Honda year-to-date sales of 761,064 through September are
7.5 percent ahead of last year's record pace of 707,910. Total September 1998
sales of 82,998 broke the previous record for the month of 76,276 -- also set
last year -- an increase of 8.8 percent. Both Honda and Acura divisions
posted strong sales numbers for the month, setting a number of September and
year-to-date records.
Honda division posted its best September in history with sales of 72,658,
up 8.4 percent over the September 1997 total of 67,001. Sales of Honda
division trucks set a new high for the month of September, totaling 12,788
units, supported by a new record for September CR-V sales of 9,639 units,
beating the previous September high for the model of 6,012 set last year.
Strong Civic sales of 28,001 are up 8.7 percent over the 1997 total of 25,757
for the same month last year.
The introduction of the all-new 1999 3.2TL boosted Acura division sales by
setting a new all-time single month record of 3,769 for the model -- beating
the previous high of 3,149 set in August of 1997, and up 128.8 percent over
September 1997's total of 1,647. Acura division sales of 10,340 are 11.5
percent ahead of September 1997, strengthened by strong 3.2TL sales.
