Dollar Rent A Car to Purchase Phoenix Locations

    TULSA, Okla., Sept. 29 -- Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group,
Inc. announced its subsidiary, Dollar Rent A Car Systems, Inc.,
had agreed to purchase the DOLLAR(R) locations in Phoenix, Arizona, from its
licensee, Stratford American Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: STFA), for an
undisclosed price.
    In addition to an in-terminal location at Phoenix Sky Harbor International
Airport, the acquisition also consists of two city locations in Phoenix and a
location in Tempe.  The acquisition includes the franchise rights and the
fixed assets and is scheduled to close on October 1, 1998, subject to certain
conditions.
    "This purchase is consistent with our strategy to be a corporate presence
in the top 50 U.S. markets," Gary Paxton, Dollar President, said.  "Phoenix is
the fifth largest car rental market, is a key leisure destination and
complements the more than 100 corporate-owned Dollar locations in the United
States."
    Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group owns Dollar Rent A Car and Thrifty Car
Rental.  Dollar has approximately 370 worldwide locations in 26 countries,
including 230 locations in the United States. Dollar and its licensees have
suburban and on-airport locations at all major airports across the nation, and
a fleet of more than 75,000 vehicles.  Through its alliance with Europcar,
Dollar offers service in 96 additional countries covering Europe, the Middle
East and Africa.
