Porsche To Launch 1999 911 Carrera 4
ATLANTA, Sept. 25 -- Porsche Cars North America and Porsche
Cars Canada today released initial details of Porsche's latest all-wheel drive
vehicle, the 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 4.
Scheduled to appear in North American Porsche dealerships in early 1999,
the new 911 Carrera 4 shares its styling cues with the 1999 911 Carrera
released in the spring of this year. Additionally, the new Carrera 4
incorporates an all-wheel drive system utilizing a viscous clutch as well as
an exclusive new Porsche Stability Management System designed to optimize
traction, braking and handling.
The new Carrera 4 is also the first all-wheel drive Porsche to be equipped
with the Tiptronic S automatic transmission system. This five-speed automatic
gearbox is offered as an option in place of the standard six-speed manual
transmission.
Like the 1999 911 Carrera, the new 911 Carrera 4 is powered by a
liquid-cooled, horizontally opposed, six-cylinder engine producing
296 horsepower and 258 ft. lbs. of torque.
The 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 will make its public debut in January of
next year at auto shows in Detroit and Los Angeles.
