Lexus RX 300 Ranked Most Appealing Luxury SUV, LS 400 Regains Top Spot in Premium Luxury Category in J.D Power and Associates APEAL Study
TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 17 -- Lexus vehicles took two top
honors in the J.D. Power and Associates 1998 APEAL (Automotive Performance,
Execution and Layout) Study, released today. The innovative RX 300 took the
title of Most Appealing Luxury Sport Utility Vehicle, while the LS 400 was
ranked Most Appealing Premium Luxury Car.
The ES 300, GS 400 and GS 300 also ranked in the top three of their
respective categories. Additionally, combining the Lexus and Toyota divisions
of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., the company's products placed highest in
four of the 14 categories, more than any other automaker.
"We believe these results show that the new Lexus model line has a passion
for excitement and exhilaration, and that our customers have a passion for
Lexus," said Bryan Bergsteinsson, Lexus group vice president and general
manager. "Receiving these honors reflects that today's Lexus vehicles are not
just considered luxurious and dependable, they also have personality and
soul."
The APEAL Study measures what owners like and dislike about their new cars
and trucks from both a functional as well as emotional point of view. The
study examines eight elements of the vehicle including styling; engine and
transmission; comfort and convenience; ride and handling; seats; heating,
ventilation and cooling; cockpit and instrument panel; and sound system.
Earlier this year, Lexus received additional J.D. Power and Associates
awards including top nameplate in Vehicle Dependability (VDI) and Customer
Satisfaction (CSI). The ES 300 and LS 400 received Best Entry and Premium
Luxury car respectively, in Initial Quality (IQS).
