USA's top insurers recognized for financial strength and stability; Horace Mann named to both Ward's 50 lists for fifth consecutive year

SPRINGFIELD, Ill.--Sept. 2, 1998--Both the life insurance and the property & casualty insurance companies of Horace Mann Educators Corporation have been named to the "Ward's 50" lists of the nation's outstanding insurers. Horace Mann is one of only four corporations nationally to be recognized on both lists for at least five straight years.
Ward Financial Group is a Cincinnati-based investment banking and management consulting firm specializing in the insurance industry. Ward analyzed 2,000 life insurers and 3,000 property/casualty insurers and placed the top 50 of each on its lists based on their financial safety, consistency and performance over the past five-year period.
"We don't conduct business to win awards, but we're very pleased to be honored for consistently conducting business the right way. This is the fifth straight year we've been recognized on both Ward's lists for our financial strength and stability, and I think that says a lot about our commitments to our shareholders, policyholders and employees," says Horace Mann Chairman of the Board, President and C.E.O. Paul J. Kardos.
Founded in 1945 and headquartered in Springfield, Ill., Horace Mann provides retirement annuities and automobile, homeowners and life insurance to the nation's educators through an exclusive sales force of more than 1,000 agents.
