1999 Honda Accord Prices Up Less Than 1 Percent
TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 28 -- The manufacturer's suggested
retail price of the best-selling Honda Accord will increase an average of
0.8 percent or $175 on a sales weighted basis for the 1999 model year,
American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today.
The Accord, which was completely re-engineered last year, adds folding
exterior side mirrors on all '99 LX and EX models and redesigned fabrics for
all sedan models with cloth interiors.
The application of Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) technology also is
being greatly expanded for '99 models to include all 4-cylinder Accord LX and
EX models with an automatic transmission sold in California and several
Northeastern states. Previously only the EX models were ULEV certified. This
increases the number of vehicles equipped with the advanced low emission
technology from about 20,000 to more than 80,000 for the '99 model year.
The best-selling Accord model, the 4-cylinder LX Sedan with automatic
transmission that accounts for about one-third of all Accord sales, will carry
a price tag of $19,190, an increase of $100. Overall, Accord prices range
from $15,200 for the Accord DX Sedan to $24,400 for EX V6 Coupe.
Destination and handling charges have been increased from $395 to
$415. Model year 1999 Accord models are now being shipped to dealerships.
Prices for other Honda models will be announced closer to their on-sale dates.
The Accord has been the number one passenger car choice of individual
American consumers for nine years running. It was also the number one car in
the midsize category on J.D. Power and Associates 1998 Customer Satisfaction
Index.
Accord Sedan and Coupe models are built at Honda of America
Manufacturing's plant in Marysville, Ohio. The Coupe was designed and
engineered completely in North America and is built only at the Marysville
facility.
