American Express Partners with Florida DHSMV on Driver License Replacement ServicePublic/Private Partnership Will Benefit Florida Drivers TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Aug. 11 -- American Express and the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) announced a partnership to provide driver license replacement services to Florida drivers through American Express' Credit Card Registry program. The American Express Credit Card Registry allows enrollees to register all charge, credit, ATM, gas and department store cards as well as important document numbers. The program enables enrollees to 1) make just one phone call to cancel and request replacements for all cards that are lost or stolen, 2) quickly access important document numbers (i.e. passport, driver license) if lost or stolen, 3) be reimbursed for liability charges on enrolled cards, up to $5,000 per loss, and 4) make one phone call to request a change-of- address for enrolled cards. "Because credit cards and driver licenses are usually lost or stolen at the same time, the ability to make one phone call to request replacements provides convenience, security and peace-of-mind, particularly if you are traveling," said Larry Sharnak, Senior Vice President of American Express Relationship Services, noting that the company has similar arrangements in Virginia and New York. "The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is an ideal partner for us because it is innovative, customer- oriented and technologically advanced. In fact, the Florida DHSMV's digitized driver license system can retrieve an image and produce a replacement license within one business day." DHSMV Executive Director Fred Dickinson agreed that this service will be a great benefit for Florida drivers. "Our partnership with American Express will give Florida drivers another convenient way to replace their licenses," Dickinson said. "The American Express Credit Card Registry program also enhances efficiency because it will reduce the number of people who have to come to DHSMV offices for license replacement. "This is an extension of DHSMV's commitment to customer service -- providing innovative, efficient and friendly service to our customers," Dickinson said, noting that there are more than 12 million licensed drivers in Florida, many holding a digitized driver license, which is used for the replacement license service provided by American Express. How To Enroll You must be an American Express or Optima Cardmember to enroll in the American Express Credit Card Registry. The enrollment fee is only $15 a year.
