Stanley/Whistler Introduces Revolutionary New Garage Door Opener at National Hardware Show

    BIRMINGHAM, Mich.--Aug. 11, 1998--

Quiet-Glide Openers Recharge Home Accessory Industry

Stanley/Whistler, a provider of garage door openers and related accessories for the residential market, today announced the introduction of the Quiet-Glide(TM) Series of garage door openers, the industry's first completely redesigned opener to hit the shelves in quite some time. Stanley/Whistler's Quiet-Glide Series provides more safety and convenience features than any other opener in the industry, including two new exclusive features, Safe-T-Force and Electronic Limits.
The chain-driven Quiet-Glide Series combines cutting edge technology with practical safety features and top-quality components to form a truly unique product. In addition to the finest opening motor and track system in the industry, the Quiet-Glide Series sets new standards for easy installation and safety, and guarantees that all components are manufactured according to the highest standards in the industry.
The Quiet-Glide Series will be rolled-out in three different tiers Gold, Silver and Bronze - to address a full range of consumer needs. The series' value is based on the opener, its accessories and its warranty.

Quiet-Glide Safety and Convenience Features and Functions:
--Safe-T-Force - The opener automatically assesses how much force is needed to open and close the door, then electronically adjusts to operate on the lowest force settings. (Exclusive!)
--Electronic Limits - Just a push of a button during installation electronically sets the door's open/close limits, making the process fast and effortless. (Exclusive!)
--SmartFlash(TM) - The opener's work light is also a Morse code-like diagnostic system that makes it easy to determine which safety feature is activated.
--SecureCode(TM) - 4.2 billion rolling code options guarantee that thieves can't break the code - it changes every time the garage is opened or closed.
--Safe-T-Monitor(TM) - Electronically monitors the force-to-resistance ratio of the door's closing cycle. The system reverses the closing cycle when the ratio exceeds a safe limit.
--Safe-T-Cycle(TM) - Opens the door if it does not close completely within 30 seconds.
--Safe-T-Close(TM) - An infrared beam/sensor system automatically reverses a closing door when it detects an obstruction.
--Smart Beam - Emits an audible tone to indicate that infrared sensors detect an obstruction.

"The product was designed with the consumer in mind - it's the most advanced opener to date yet it's still easy to install and use," noted Richard Caceres, director of marketing for Stanley/Whistler. "Stanley/Whistler is proud to have its name on the three tiers of the Quiet-Glide Series."
Quiet-Glide systems and other Stanley/Whistler products are sold by a worldwide network of reputable stores and distributors including retail home centers and lumberyards and mass merchants.
