Ford Shelving Visteon Spin-Off


    NEW YORK--Aug. 6, 1998--GM's announcement that it would spin off Delphi Automotive Systems was greeted warmly by Wall Street. But there are troubling questions about whether Delphi can compete as an independent in the cutthroat auto-supplier world. Just how tricky will it be? Ask Ford Motor Co. After planning a spin-off of its $17 billion Visteon parts unit for almost two years, Ford is shelving the idea, say union and Wall Street sources in the August 17 issue of BUSINESS WEEK. Ford declined to confirm that change of heart.
