UAW Leaders Respond to Delphi Sale Announcement
DETROIT, Aug. 3 -- "The UAW is on record as opposing the
split-off or spin-off of GM's Delphi operations and that remains our
position," said UAW President Stephen P. Yokich.
"Should GM decide to proceed with the sale as announced," added UAW Vice
President Richard Shoemaker, who heads the union's General Motors Department,
"the UAW's record is clear -- we can and will aggressively work to protect the
rights and interests of UAW members impacted by the sale."
"Until such time as we have additional information about the proposed
timetable and other details of the sale, we will have no further comment,"
Shoemaker concluded.
