Paul Wellstone, United States Senator (D-MN) to Deliver Keynote Address to 300 UAW Activists at The University of Akron, Akron, Ohio, Sunday, August 2, 1998, 6:00 p.m.
    CLEVELAND, Aug. 2 -- Paul Wellstone, the Senior Senator from
Minnesota, who presently is exploring the probability of running for president
of the United States is the keynote speaker at the UAW Region 2 Summer School
at The University of Akron, Gardner Student Center today, Sunday, August 2,
1998 at 6:00 p.m.
    Senator Wellstone will discuss labor law reform, social security,
government reform, reforming the nation's health care system, and a host of
other current topics.  Wellstone is controversial in the U.S. Senate and
promises to be so in his speech to the leadership and rank and file of UAW
Region 2, which represents 80,000 members in eastern Ohio and western
Pennsylvania.  UAW Region 2 is comprised of 70 local unions representing a
wide spectrum of workers, ranging from the auto industry and small parts
plants to public sector workers.  There are also eleven active CAP Councils in
Region 2, which serve as the political arm of the organization.
