Governor Announces Dislocated Worker Grant To Michigan AFL-CIO Human Resources Development, Inc.LANSING, Mich., July 17 -- Governor Engler today announced the award of a $1,182,971 dislocated worker grant to the Michigan AFL-CIO Human Resources Development, Inc. (HRDI) based in Lansing, Michigan. This award will provide job training services to dislocated and laid off workers in 1998-1999 to all 25 Michigan Works! areas. "We are committed to helping workers get back to work as quickly as possible and to increasing the availability of quality services and training options," said Governor Engler. Michigan AFL-CIO Human Resources Development, Inc. has received nearly 15 million dollars in federal funding from the Michigan Jobs Commission for similar programs since 1990. Michigan HRDI will recruit displaced workers through Michigan Unemployment Agency, unemployment insurance recipients, local employment service providers, state, regional and local labor organizations, community agencies, and employers undergoing workforce reduction. Eligible participants will be enrolled into occupational skills training, on-the-job training, or classroom training. Funding for the Economic Dislocation and Worker Adjustment Assistance Act is made available by the federal Job Training Partnership Act administered through the Michigan Jobs Commission.
