Land Rover North America Announces 'Certified' Pre-Owned Vehicle Program LANHAM, Md., July 10 -- Land Rover North America, Inc. has
recently introduced a nationwide "Certified" Pre-Owned Vehicle Program. Land
Rover Certified is the first ever pre-owned program offered by LRNA, and is
designed to extend the Land Rover experience to a larger group of customers.
One hundred six of the 115 Land Rover Retailers in the United States are
currently authorized to sell Land Rover Certified vehicles.
Charles R. Hughes, President, LRNA, said, "Land Rover Certified provides
buyers with like-new warranty protection in exceptionally maintained, pre-
owned Land Rovers. For a relatively small-volume seller like Land Rover, our
Certified program is an opportunity to expand the Land Rover family by giving
more people the confidence to purchase our vehicles. The Land Rover ownership
experience is unique in this business. Land Rover Certified opens the door to
that experience a little wider."
To qualify as Certified, a Land Rover must be less than six model years
old with fewer than 75,000 miles and can be either in or out of its new-
vehicle factory warranty. The Land Rover Certified program is unusual as it
includes pre-owned Land Rovers from any source, rather than covering only
recent, off-lease vehicles. In fact, any Land Rover that has not exceeded the
6-year/75,000-mile limit automatically becomes Certified when it is traded in
on a new vehicle or repurchased by the retailer -- provided it meets exacting
Certified specifications. Some retailers have begun contacting late-model
Land Rover owners in the hope of increasing their stock of Certified vehicles.
A Land Rover is Certified by any authorized Land Rover Retailer after
meeting a rigorous 98-point vehicle inspection. Land Rover technicians check
all components and subsystems on the vehicle, and all major exterior and
interior parts. All scheduled maintenance is brought up to date.
Certified vehicles receive a standard 1-year/12,000-mile Limited Used
Vehicle Warranty that protects the engine, transmission, four-wheel-drive
system, and transfer case as well as the fuel, cooling and HVAC systems. Also
covered are the electrical and braking systems, suspension, steering, seals
and gaskets, and other components. Certain used vehicle "wear and tear" items
are not covered under warranty. Additionally, coverage extends to all new
Land Rover Kit items purchased for the Certified vehicle at the time of sale.
Coverage of a Certified vehicle also includes Land Rover's 24-hour Road
Recovery service, as well as Trip Interruption reimbursement and rental car
coverage. The Land Rover Certified pre-owned program removes many of the
worries that can come with purchasing a used vehicle.
Buyers of both new and Certified pre-owned Land Rovers may also elect to
purchase optional "Assured" coverage -- a selection of upgraded service
protection plans. Assured coverage extends the Certified pre-owned warranty by
an additional 1-year/12,000-miles on 1998 and newer model year vehicles or up
to 2-years/24,000-miles on 1997 and prior model year vehicles. New-vehicle
Assured coverage periods are longer.
For vehicles ineligible for Certified status -- those older than six model
years and with 75,000 miles or more (but with less than 100,000 miles) -- Land
Rover's optional Assured Driveline coverage provides 1-year/12,000-mile
protection of all driveline components.
Land Rover Financial Services offers Land Rover Certified vehicle buyers a
range of financing and lease options with rates comparable to those available
on new Land Rover vehicles.
The Certified program allows Land Rover North America and Land Rover
Retailers to provide warranty protection previously unavailable on pre-owned
Land Rovers. The Certified program extends the Land Rover family of vehicles
to buyers who may not have considered a Land Rover attainable. It offers
these potential buyers not only a like-new Land Rover, but like-new warranty
protection as well.
