ADVISORY/Los Angeles Times Revs Up Highway 1; New Section Highlights Southern Californians and Their Cars

WHAT: Beginning June 25, Southern California's unique "car
culture" will be celebrated each week in a new section in
The Times called Highway 1. The section offers auto
enthusiasts and everyday drivers a fun, comprehensive look
at Southern California's legendary love affair with the
    automobile.

FIRST ISSUE: "Let's Go Topless: Convertibles"
Nothing exemplifies Southern California like the
convertible. The Times takes a look down memory lane at the
history of the convertible, and examines why softtops are
    making a comeback.

    Also in the premiere issue:

-- Comfort vs. handling? Driving pleasure vs. performance?
What do Southern Californians have to say?
-- Luxury cars, sporty roadsters and classy coupes make a
    comeback in a big way.

WHEN: Thursday, June 25

WHY: Let's face it -- Southern California is the car capital of
the world. Southern Californians spend more time driving,
collecting and pampering their cars than anyone on earth.
It's also where top car designers make their mark in the
    industry.

-- There are 8.3 million cars registered in Southern
    California
-- Approximately 6.6 million commuters travel Southern
California's 7,500 miles of highways every day
-- Los Angeles is the nation's No. 1 market in automotive
    aftermarket revenues

Look for the premiere issue of Highway 1 in Thursday's Los Angeles Times.
