Oakland County Students Earn DENSO ScholarshipsSOUTHFIELD, Mich., June 4 -- Eleven Oakland County students earned scholarships from the DENSO Oakland Schools Educational Foundation. University scholarships of $2,000 each were awarded to: -- Xiaoyan Cao, Troy High School; -- Pa Yang, Pontiac Central High School and OSM Tech; -- Sophie Liao, Novi High School; -- Kristin Klebba, Royal Oak Dondero High School; -- Sara Cook, Walled Lake Western High School; -- Wendy Freed, Troy Athens High School, and -- Angela Ripinski, Royal Oak Kimball High School. Interlochen and Blue Lake summer camp arts scholarships of $500-$750 were awarded to: -- Brandon Faber, Walled Lake Clifford Smart High School; -- Seth Larson, North Farmington High School; -- Dalyla Yang, Hazel Park High School, and -- Katie Reed, Waterford Kettering High School. President Tony Takeuchi, of DENSO International America (DIAM) in Southfield, said, "Supporting education in the communities in which we do business is a long-standing mission of DENSO in North America. " The scholarship fund, established by Takeuchi in 1991 with a $300,000 endowment from DENSO, assists outstanding Oakland County high school students who have shown academic excellence, meaningful community involvement and a financial need. The fund also provides scholarships for secondary summer arts programs at Interlochen and Blue Lake. Since 1992, the foundation has awarded more than $86,000 in scholarships to 72 students. Oakland Schools, one of 57 regional service agencies throughout Michigan which provides programs and services, without cost, to 28 Oakland County school districts, administers the program and coordinates scholarship selection.
