27 May 1998

Detroit Diesel Offers Certified 6V-92 Retrofit Kits For Urban Buses at 0.10g/bhp Particulate Matter Level
DETROIT, May 27 -- Detroit Diesel Corporation
announced at the American Public Transit Association Bus Operations,
Technology and Management Conference that it has received official
certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the
Urban Bus Retrofit/Rebuild Regulations. The new emission retrofit kits have
been certified by the EPA to meet a particulate matter (PM) emission level of
0.10g/bhp-hr when used for mechanical unit injected Detroit Diesel 6V-92TA
urban bus engines. This certification includes all 253, 277 and 294
horsepower, federally certified 6V-92 mechanically unit injected urban bus
engines manufactured between 1979 and 1989.
The EPA has announced that the new certified equipment can be used
immediately by urban bus operators in compliance with the EPA's Urban Bus
Retrofit/Rebuild Regulations.
The new DDC emission rebuild kits consist of new manufactured parts,
reliabilt(R) remanufactured parts, an electronically powered supercharger
system manufactured by Turbodyne Technologies, Inc. and a passive oxidation
catalytic converter replacement muffler manufactured by Engine Control
Systems.
DDC has demonstrated a particulate matter reduction for older bus engines
that meets stringent 1993 EPA particulate emission standards for new urban
buses. DDC became the first heavy-duty engine manufacturer to certify
retrofit kits with the EPA in 1995.
DDC's new EPA certified emission retrofit kits can be purchased as
complete reliabilt(R) factory remanufactured engines, reliabilt(R) long block
kits, or components in the form of upgrade kits that the customer can install
at time of normal engine overhaul. The retrofit kits can be purchased through
authorized Detroit Diesel distributors.
Detroit Diesel Corporation is engaged in the design, manufacture, sale and
