Car and Driver: Could Chrysler-Daimler Merger Mean a Mercedes Pickup?

ANN ARBOR, Mich., May 6 -- A merger between Chrysler
and Daimler-Benz offers a number of interesting
possibilities, says Csaba Csere (Chubba Chedda), editor-in-chief of Car and
Driver magazine. Among them: The first-ever Mercedes pickup.
More seriously, Csere says a merger would be good for consumers as product
prices could drop due to Chrysler and Daimler sharing parts, such as wiper
motors which are not evident to buyers. Trend-wise, the merger makes sense
says Csere as carmakers, playing on the global field, seek to cut costs
through shared engineering. This follows the deals between Ford and Jaguar,
and General Motors and Saab. It also underscores the bidding war for Rolls
Royce.
