Penske Auto Centers Partner With Safety-Kleen To Recycle Virtually All Fluid Wastes and FiltersELGIN, Ill., and TROY, Mich., May 4 -- Penske Auto Centers throughout the U.S. are now recycling virtually all of their fluid wastes and used filters through a new partnership with Safety-Kleen. The alliance enables Safety-Kleen Corp. to recover used oil, antifreeze, parts cleaning solvents and filters for environmentally-beneficial recycling and re-use. The Penske Auto Centers benefit from more efficient contracting of environmental services to manage both hazardous and non-hazardous wastes. "This partnership is a win-win alliance for the environment, the communities we serve and our companies," said Mike Carney, senior vice president, marketing services and customer care. "By safely recycling wastes for reuse, our alliance helps to protect the environment and to conserve valuable natural resources," he said. "This partnership helps assure our customers that used fluids and filters from their vehicles are being safely recycled. It also provides assurances to our neighbors that Penske Auto Centers are managing wastes safely and responsibly," said Roger Penske Jr., chief executive officer of Penske Auto Centers. All of Penske's nearly 800 auto centers in the U.S. are involved in the recycling program. The two companies also will be rolling out to some auto centers the Safety-Kleen WE CARE(R) consumer awareness and education program, which helps inform consumers about how the wastes from their vehicles are safely collected and recycled. Among the services provided by Safety-Kleen are used oil and antifreeze recovery, collection of oil filters and fuel filters, parts cleaner services and vacuum cleaning of oil/water separators at Penske's Auto Centers. The majority of wastes collected from the auto centers can be reused. Used oil is re-refined by Safety-Kleen and ethylene glycol from used antifreeze can be recycled. The metal filter canisters are recycled through steel smelters and used fuel filters and oil filters are blended for recovery as an industrial fuel. Penske Auto Centers are part of Penske Corporation, a closely-held, diversified transportation services company which conducts its business through a number of wholly- or partially-owned companies. In addition to Penske Auto Centers, Inc.; those companies include Detroit Diesel Corporation; Penske Truck Leasing Company; Diesel Technology Company; Penske Automotive Group, Inc.; Penske Capital Partners and Penske Motorsports, Inc.
