1998 Mitsubishi Mirage Named Among Most Environmentally Conscious Cars

American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy
Lists Mirage as One of Top 12 `Greenest' Vehicles

CYPRESS, Calif., April 17 -- Mitsubishi Motors' 1998 Mirage
has been named one of the top 12 "greenest" vehicles in 1998 by the American
Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE). The 1998 Mirage Coupe DE and
Sedan with California emissions equipment received honorable recognition in
the ACEEE's Green Guide to Cars and Trucks, a new consumer guide which
provides the first-ever comprehensive environmental ratings for every 1998
vehicle sold in the United States.
The Green Guide to Cars and Trucks based their research on vehicles'
environmental impacts including air pollution, global warming, fuel efficiency
and other specifications. Designed to set new standards of environmental
sensitivity and an economical base price of $10,830 for the Mirage Coupe DE,
Mirage was determined by Green Guide to have excelled by being cleaner and
more fuel efficient.
"Mitsubishi Motors is committed to being socially responsible in all our
business activities including protecting and preserving the environment," said
Kim Custer, director, public affairs and corporate communications for MMSA.
"Not only are we designing vehicles to be environmentally sensitive, as the
Mitsubishi Motors family of companies, we recycle materials at both the
manufacturing and corporate levels and support programs educating youth about
sound environmental practices."
The 1998 Mirage is a value-packed vehicle offering style, comfort, quality
and refinement. As one of the largest gasoline-powered vehicles in Green
Guide's top 12 rated "green" vehicles, Mirage stands out from its competition.
In a never-ending quest to help preserve the earth's limited resources and
to protect the environment, Mitsubishi Motors has addressed several key issues
in the design and manufacture of the Mirage. For easier potential recycling
when the Mirage reaches the end of its service life several years from now,
most plastic parts are made from thermoplastics and stamped with a code
indicating their material. In addition, to help prevent the depletion of the
ozone layer, the Mirage's available air conditioning system uses R134a
refrigerant and non-chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) urethane is specified for the
seat padding and steering wheel.
