Spencer Bachus Attends Event BIRMINGHAM, Ala., April 16 -- Nissan Motor Corporation, USA today provided four Nissan Frontier pickup trucks to help the American Red Cross distribute emergency relief supplies to thousands of Alabamans victimized by tornadoes in recent days. The four white Frontiers were delivered to the American Red Cross Headquarters in Birmingham. Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Ala., was among the dignitaries who attended the event. "Nissan has come through once again for the American Red Cross and those families affected by disasters," said Joe Packa, Chief Executive Officer of American Red Cross' Birmingham Area Chapter. "Nissan's generous contribution will enable the Red Cross to distribute emergency relief to more families in need." The trucks will be used to transport urgently needed supplies from Red Cross warehouses to Red Cross relief centers in affected areas. They will also be used to support transportation of food for affected families and workers to Red Cross kitchens; to transport donated goods and supplies to agencies and selected sites for distribution and to provide ongoing support for Red Cross relief for future disasters in this community and throughout Alabama. The trucks were donated by five dealers in the Birmingham area: * Crown Nissan (Birmingham) * Jim Burke Nissan (Birmingham) * Serra Nissan (Birmingham) * Dixie Nissan (Bessemer) * Townsend's Magnolia Nissan (Tuscaloosa) "This donation reflects Nissan's philosophy to become part of the communities in which it operates. Like any good neighbor, we pitch in during times of need," said Michael Darrow, Nissan's Southeast Regional Vice President. "We are honored to be part of the impressive group of organizations contributing to the relief efforts." In 1997, Nissan donated over $800,000 to the American Red Cross. In recent years, Nissan also supported relief efforts in the aftermath of floods in Chicago, the Blizzard of 1996 and Hurricane Fran.
