General Motors to Sponsor the 7th on Sixth Fashion ShowsNEW YORK, March 27 -- General Motors and 7th on Sixth, Inc. the company founded in 1993 to organize and centralize the runway shows of American designers, announced today that GM will be the title sponsor at the 7th on Sixth fashion shows for the next three years. This new title sponsor role marks a heighten level of commitment on the part General Motors to the American fashion industry. The fashion shows, which several times a year provide national and International forum for fashion designers showcase their collections, will now be called 'General Motors Fashion Week.' The announcement was made at a press reception in New York City's Bryant Park, site of the 7th on Sixth tents, that was hosted by the Honorable Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mayor of the City of New York, to kick off Fashion Week and celebrate the shows' return to Bryant Park. "General Motors became involved with 7th on Sixth in 1994 as a way to connect fashion conscious female consumers with our brands," said Phil Guarascio, General Motors vice president and general manager of North American Operations Marketing and Advertising Group. "Our participation creates a marketing tool that allows us a dialogue with female buyers by supporting relevant lifestyle issues." "Fashion is an expression of personal taste ... as is the vehicle you drive. GM's deeper level of commitment to the fashion industry gives us an opportunity to make our brands more appealing and attractive to this audience," Guarascio added. General Motors is the first corporation to ever be awarded the title sponsorship of the 7W on Sixth shows. The GM Card joins as a partner in the sponsorship. "Our partnership with General Motors has been a very successful and productive one, and we are pleased they have chosen to take their commitment to another level," said Stan Herman, president of 7th on Sixth. "Their new sponsorship role, which was crucial in allowing us to return to Bryant Park will give us the opportunity to showcase American fashion and American designers better than ever before." General Motors Fashion Week begins on Saturday, March 28 and runs through Friday, April 3 at the tents in Bryant park.
