Statement by Fred Feinstein, Acting General Counsel, National Labor Relations Board, on the Caterpillar-UAW Settlement

    WASHINGTON, March 23 -- The following is a statement by
Fred Feinstein, Acting General Counsel, National Labor Relations Board, on the
Caterpillar-UAW Settlement:

    "I am pleased that the parties have been able to reach a new collective
bargaining agreement and end their lengthy labor dispute.  I am hopeful that
the withdrawal of the pending charges will assist the parties in developing a
positive relationship.
    "I wish to extend my appreciation to the many employees in the agency for
their dedication and hard work in processing these numerous charges.  In
particular, I want to thank the Peoria Regional Office, whose employees
handled the vast majority of these cases in a thoroughly professional manner."
