A Record Nine Worldwide Debuts Highlight The 1998 New York International Auto Show

WHITESTONE, N.Y. March 19 -- The 1998 New York International
Auto Show (NYIAS) is proud to announce that sixteen automotive manufacturers
will debut vehicles at this year's Show, including nine worldwide
introductions -- a record for the 98-year-old exhibition. A spectacular
showcase of more than 1000 cars and trucks, the '98 NYIAS will feature global
debuts from Chevrolet, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Isuzu, Lincoln, Mitsubishi,
Subaru, and Suzuki.
"We are pleased that nine companies have chosen New York as the venue for
introducing their vehicles to the world for the very first time," said
John LaSorsa, Chairman of the Greater New York Automobile Dealers
Association's (GNYADA) Auto Show Committee. "Located in the financial, media,
and cultural capital of the world, the New York International Auto Show has
become a prime setting for global debuts, and that's before you consider the
Show's annual public attendance of more than 1.2 million visitors. The
manufacturers have learned that New York City is the best place to make a
splash with the nation's single largest gathering of prominent opinion leaders
and decision makers."
North American introductions will include vehicles from Audi, Cadillac,
Mercedes, Pontiac, Porsche and Volvo. In addition, Buick is planning a
regional debut. Details on these unveilings will be available the week before
the Show.
"Worldwide introductions mean a great deal to the New York International
Auto Show, and to the regional new car and truck retailers," added Gary
Schimmerling, president of the GNYADA, the organization that puts on the Show,
"The Tri-State Area, home to at least 20 million people, is a very important
region for the automakers. Many local retailers notice increased showroom
traffic and a jump in sales after these high profile debuts."
All of the above-mentioned cars and trucks will be present for the first
time in the Tri-State Area at the New York International Automobile Show,
which will host Press Preview Days on Wednesday, April 8th and Thursday,
April 9th. Dealer/Industry Preview Day will be held on Friday, April 1Oth.
The Auto Show will take place from Saturday, April 11th, to Sunday,
April 19th, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan.
