Car Collectors And Enthusiasts Take The Internet To ClassicCarShow.Com(SM) For Info And FunAMELIA ISLAND, Fla., March 19 -- ClassicCarShow.com(SM), the Internet's leading Website for information on collector cars, is set to debut a sophisticated online interactive automotive trivia game this week that tests the knowledge of car enthusiasts as a way to promote an upcoming charity car show. "This new game is incredibly fun and entertaining, and it's really helping us spread the word about the Third Invitational Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance," says Bill Warner, event co-chairman and contributing editor of Road & Track Magazine. "There's nothing like it on the Internet," Warner added. The games allow users to interact with images and sounds on the computer screen. Players in the ClassicCarShow(SM) Online Automotive Trivia Contest are presented with ten questions. The computer screen reveals each question inside a classic Mercedes-Benz convertible. If the player chooses a correct answer, the car speeds ahead through a tunnel and is greeted by a man waving a checkered flag, after which the next question is then presented. Enter a wrong answer, and you'll crash the car. Don't worry, though, a correct answer repairs your Benz and sends you on your way again. Ten correct answers allow you to enter a drawing for some great prizes. The online contest has already received recognition from leading software maker MacroMedia, who awarded the website "Shocked Site of the Day." There are also some distractions from the questions -- click your computer mouse on the car's radio, watch the antenna go up and get ready to listen to some music, or click on the horn to warn the man with the checkered flag to get out of the way. Heralded as a "new world-class concours" by Auto Week and referred to as "Pebble Beach East" by Automobile, the Third Invitational Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance will feature about 200 rare and special interest vehicles, ranging in years from 1901 to 1972 and in variety from Duesenbergs and Mercedes-Benz to Ferraris and Fords. Warner estimates the value of these collectible cars and rare motorcycles to be over $100 million. To find out more about the April 17-18 event, visit the Website at: http://www.C1assicCarShow.com . Here's what you will find: -- The latest news and information about the Concours, including a Special Media Section -- Downloadable photographs of the cars for use as computer screen savers or high-resolution photos for publishing purposes -- A listing of participating cars and motorcycles sorted by year or marque -- Overview of Hospice Northeast, the beneficiary of the event -- Background on honorary chairman, Hurley Haywood, internationally recognized world endurance racing champion -- A schedule of weekend activities -- Biographies of the judges -- Listing and description of the awards and sponsors -- How to order tickets from Hospice and make hotel reservations "The web site allows us to share the pageantry of the event with a world- wide audience and extend an open invitation to join us for the weekend of activities," said Warner. "The web site is actually an event all its own!" The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is based on the first such exhibition held in France in the late 1800s. Today, these events are held in places such as Bagatelle of Paris; London; Pebble Beach, California, and Meadow Brook, Michigan. Other sponsors of the Amelia Island event include USAir, Ford, The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, and NationsBank. The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is presented by Mercedes-Benz, and all proceeds from this event benefit Hospice Northeast, a non-profit organization that cares for terminally ill children and adults.
