UAW/Chrysler Show Support for Storm Victims -- Chrysler Corporation to Match Donations

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 26 -- The United Auto Workers and
the Chrysler Corporation have donated $25,000 to the American Red
Cross-Disaster Relief Fund. About 1,500 UAW Chrysler delegates, who are in
Orlando, Fla., taking part in the Annual UAW-Chrysler Joint Conferences
Program, donated $12,500. That amount was matched by the Chrysler Corporation
Fund.
Delegates were asked to contribute funds and assist in the relief of those
affected by the storms in Florida earlier this week. "This shows something
special about our membership," said UAW Vice President Jack Laskowski, who is
responsible for the union's Chrysler Department. "Our members opened up their
hearts to help the unfortunate people who have been devastated by this
destructive act of nature."
Tom Gallagher, Vice President of Employee Relations for Chrysler
Corporation, said, "Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the
storm. Providing a match of the funds raised by our UAW members is certainly
fitting."
Representatives from the local chapter of the American Red Cross accepted
the donation in a special ceremony this morning at the conclusion of the
conference.
Since 1989, the Chrysler Corporation Fund has contributed more than
$800,000 to the American Red Cross-Disaster Relief Fund.
