Meritor Automotive Elects Soderstrom Corporate Officer

    TROY, Mich., Feb. 13 --  Meritor Automotive Inc. ,
announced that its board of directors has elected S. Carl Soderstrom, senior
vice president, Engineering, Quality and Procurement, reporting directly to
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Larry D. Yost.
    "The election of Carl Soderstrom as a corporate officer brings further
strategic insight and a broad grasp of innovative technology and its practical
application to the company's executive leadership team," Yost said.
    Prior to joining Meritor in 1995, Soderstrom held senior engineering
management positions at Rockwell's industrial automation business, and
materials management and manufacturing positions at General Electric
Corporation and Emerson Electric.
    Soderstrom holds bachelor's degrees in mechanical engineering and
economics from Duke University and a master's degree in business
administration from the University of Michigan.
    Meritor, with 1997 sales of more than $3.3 billion, is a global supplier
of a broad range of components and systems for commercial, specialty and light
vehicles.  Meritor consists of two businesses:  Heavy Vehicle Systems, a
leading supplier of drivetrain systems and components for medium- and heavy-
duty trucks, trailers and off-highway equipment and specialty vehicles,
including military, bus and coach, and fire and rescue; and Light Vehicle
Systems, a major supplier of roof, door, access control and seat adjusting
systems, electric motors and electronic controls, suspension systems and
wheels for passenger cars, light trucks and sport utility vehicles.
