Jaguar VP Named Executive of the Year by 'African Americans On Wheels'

DETROIT, Jan. 8 -- George J. Frame, vice president, finance
and administration for Jaguar Cars North America, received the African
Americans On Wheels (AA0W) magazine's Golden Wheel "Executive of the Year"
award tonight at a gala reception at the Museum of African American History,
preceding the public opening of the North American International Auto Show.
Frame received the Edward Davis Golden Wheel Award, which the magazine
gives annually to an African American executive for management leadership.
The award is named after Edward Davis, the first African American to be
awarded a new car dealership franchise by an American auto company and the
first to be inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame.
The winners were selected by a panel of automotive journalists including:
Earle Eldridge, USA TODAY; Kathy Jackson and Frank Washington, Automotive
News; Warren Brown, The Washington Post; Rosville Embry, Dallas automotive
freelance writer; Winfred Cross, Charlotte Post; and Blair Walker, formerly of
USA TODAY and Autoweek.
Frame, 53, is the only African American on Jaguar's executive committee
and has been with the company since 1991. In addition to finance, he is
responsible for the company's legal affairs, commercial account sales and
remarketing efforts.
"Frame's work has contributed to the increased profitability of Jaguar car
dealerships from 1995 to 1997," said Randi Payton, publisher and editor-in-
chief of AAOW. Sales have increased from 13,000 in 1992 to about 20,000 last
year. "George exemplifies the influence and impact that an African American
can have on the auto industry," Payton added.
Frame came to Jaguar from Ford Motor Company , where he managed
the marketing cost and profit analysis department in the Ford and Lincoln-
Mercury controller's office. Previously, Frame held several finance positions
in both domestic and international operations. Those assignments included
positions with the Lincoln-Mercury Division, Ford Marketing Corporation and
the Ford Parts and Service Division. Frame holds a bachelor's degree in
economics from Widener College and a master's degree in business
administration from Dartmouth College.
African Americans On Wheels magazine is a 40-page supplement to 33 black
newspapers and zoned editions of three daily publications: The Detroit News
and Detroit Free Press and The Washington Post.
