Hayes Lemmerz International to be Listed on the New York Stock Exchange

    ROMULUS, Mich., December 17 -- Hayes Lemmerz International,
Inc. announced today that its common stock has been formally
approved for trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "HAZ".
Currently, Hayes Lemmerz is traded on the Nasdaq Stock market under the symbol
"HAYS".
    Trading in shares of the company's common stock on the New York Stock
Exchange is expected to commence December 18, 1997.
    This announcement comes after the company's recent acquisition of Lemmerz
Holding GmbH, Europe's leading wheel manufacturer, at which time the company
changed its name from Hayes Wheels International, Inc. to Hayes Lemmerz
International, Inc.
    Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc., with annual sales of over $1.4 billion,

engineering and manufacture of steel and aluminum wheels and brake drums and
