Ford to Redeem Series A Preferred Stock

    DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 1 -- Ford Motor Company today
announced that on Jan. 9, 1998, it intends to redeem all outstanding shares of
its Series A Cumulative Convertible Preferred Stock and all the depositary
shares that represent the stock.
    The redemption price will be $51.68 per depositary share plus accrued and
unpaid dividends to Jan. 9, 1998.
    Holders may convert their shares into Ford common stock between now and
Jan. 9.  The conversion ratio is 3.2654 common shares for each Series A
depositary share.
    On Nov. 20, 1991, Ford issued 46 million of Series A depositary shares.
Approximately 2.6 million shares remain outstanding.
    First Chicago Trust Company of New York is Ford's transfer agent.
Preferred shareholders with questions regarding the details of the redemption
