SPX Corporation Announces 'Tech 2 Flash' For GM Aftermarket Service Repair Industry

MUSKEGON, Mich., Nov. 24 -- Under license agreement with
General Motors Corporation , SPX Corporation today
announced strategic marketing plans to offer "Tech 2 Flash" to independent
repair outlets and technicians servicing General Motors vehicles.
Branded under the name "Tech 2 Flash," the tool has been designed to help
technicians diagnose and repair today's automotive emissions systems as well
as provide vehicle reprogramming technology. The "Tech 2 Flash" houses SPX
software in hardware supplied by Hewlett-Packard Company. This is the same
tool that is used at GM dealerships and provides the aftermarket shops with
all of the capabilities. The GM Service Technology Group (STG) has licensed
the distribution of this tool to independent facilities that repair General
Motors vehicles.
According to STG technical experts, "'Tech 2 Flash' and its ability to
provide diagnostic data will help technicians fix vehicles right the first
time resulting in an improved customer ownership experience."
Initially, independent repair outlets and technicians may purchase the
"Tech 2 Flash" tool through their MAC Tools distributor. Repair facilities
can obtain information by contacting their MAC Tools representative or by
calling 888-MAC TOOL. Complete distribution of the "Tech 2 Flash" will be
accomplished through SPX Corporation and their traditional automotive
aftermarket distributors.
Software development is also in process that will create the ability to
use the "Tech 2 Flash" on non-General Motors vehicles. Details of this cross-
manufacturer service program will be announced during 1998. A comprehensive
training and technical support program will also be available to purchasers of
the complete cross-manufacturer "Tech 2 Flash" diagnostic kit.
Thomas J. Riordan, President, SPX OE Tool and Equipment Group, said, "The
overall marketing plan represents a classic example of the integrated
solutions that we can provide to our customers. We are creating state-of-the-
art programs that will revolutionize the motor vehicle service industry."
